After we arrived on the evening of January 11 at the brand new airport in Dakar (they still need to work on the processing the entry requirements) we stayed at the Naturefriends House Petit Mbao for one night.
The next morning, 12.01., our bags are put on two different busses after we received some information about the next details of our trip – we had also received detailed materials before the tour. Then we were on our way to Koungheul. After a lunch break in Kaolack we visited Koungheul Socé, where in August 2017 fruit trees were planted in the family gardens on behalf of Naturfriends Baden (Germany). Some families proudly showed us how great their trees were doing – thanks to their good care and protection.

It is a great honour and a pleasant duty for us to welcome you. We invariably regard it as an honour and pleasure to welcome Naturefriends in Senegal. This time our enthusiasm is almost unbounded – given the symbolism of the trip and the honour accorded by Naturefriends International (NFI) g to our association by deciding to launch the Landscape of the Year 2018 for the first time in Africa, in Senegal.
We consider it a vote of confidence to ASAN and its representative at NFI – our friend Mamadou MBODJI. At the same time it is a major challenge for us to organise this event and to mobilise all our capacities for this event.
Dear friends, you have come in large numbers from Naturefriends organisations in Europe and Africa to this Landscape of the Year in the African style. You will discover Senegambia – a region with a particular ecosystem shared by both countries, a geographical area with immense biological resources. Your presence here, at a time of multiple tensions around the world, will certainly contribute to mutual understanding – an understanding which is a guarantee of peace in the world.
You will become familiar with the population diversity of the two countries and with the cultural diversity and cultural heritage of the region. And in accordance with African traditions and Senegalese hospitality (“Teranga”) you will dance with your hosts the many dances of our people: Mbalakh, Yela, Ndawrabine, Sawrouba, etc., accompanied by the typical instruments: Tamtam, Kora, Balafon, Riti, etc.
I the course of your trip you will also get a chance to help protect our environment, to contribute to our fight against the warming of our planet, to preserve biodiversity, but above all to promote ecological tourism.
On behalf of the Naturefriends of Senegal and the people of Senegambia, we welcome you on African soil, especially in Senegal and The Gambia. And at the beginning of a New Year, we wish you that it may be a good and happy one. May the year 2018 bring health, happiness, success, peace and the realization of the projects of the NFI and all nature lovers associations. Amen.

Trees for the future
One of the highlights of the opening ceremony of the new Landscape of the Year was the fruit tree planting in three villages, done by African and European Naturefriends together with the local community.
In the dry Sahel region trees are essential for survival – especially fruit trees are important: They provide shade, they prevent erosion, create a healthy food supply, which can also be sold, and every tree is important for climate protection. So that the trees can grow they need to be watered at least three times a day and the leaves of each tree need to be protected so they are not eaten by goats or other animals. Naturefriends want to plant more than 2.000 trees together with the local community. Before each tree planting, extensive talks and a training on how to take care of the trees need to happen, to get the whole community on board in order to keep the trees alive.
The tree plantings are financed through the Naturefriends Climate Fund. Since 2017 all Naturefriends can compensate their greenhouse gas emissions from air and car travel and support climate protection projects for Naturefriends Africa and make their personal contribution for more climate justice. 100% of the payments are used to support specific projects which either focus on climate mitigation or climate protection. Nachdem wir am Abend des 11. Januar am brandneuen Flughafen von Dakar angekommen sind (die Abwicklung der Einreiseformalitäten lässt noch zu wünschen übrig), beziehen wir für eine Nacht das Naturfreundehaus in Petit Mbao.
Am nächsten Morgen, 12.1., wird unser Gepäck auf zwei Busse verladen, nachdem wir Aktuelles über den Ablauf der Reise erfahren haben – umfangreiches Infomaterial wurde ja bereits im Vorfeld versendet. Dann machen wir uns auf den Weg Richtung Koungheul. Nach einer Mittagspause in Kaolack besuchen wir den Ortsteil Koungheul Socé, wo im August 2017 im Namen der Naturfreunde Baden (Deutschland) Obstbäume in den Familiengärten gepflanzt wurden. Einige Familien zeigen uns stolz, wie gut ihre Bäumchen gedeihen – dank umsichtiger Pflege- und Schutzmaßnahmen.

Liebe Freundinnen und Freunde,
es ist für uns eine große Auszeichnung und eine angenehme Pflicht, euch willkommen zu heißen. Wir verstehen es immer als Ehre und wirkliche Freude, Naturfreunde in Senegal begrüßen zu dürfen. Diesmal geschieht das jedoch mit geradezu überschäumender Begeisterung, angesichts der Symbolik dieser Reise, angesichts der Ehre, die die Natrufreunde Internationale (NFI) unserem Verband mit dem Beschluss angedeihen ließ, die Landschaft des Jahres 2018 zum ersten Mal in Afrika, in Senegal, durchzuführen.
Wir sehen darin einen Vertrauensbeweis gegenüber ASAN und ihrem Vertreter in der NFI, unserem Freund Mamadou MBODJI. Für uns bedeutet es auch eine große Herausforderung, diese Veranstaltung zu organisieren und alle unsere Kräfte für dieses Ereignis zu mobilisieren.
Liebe Freunde, ihr seid in großer Zahl aus Naturfreundeverbänden in Europa und Afrika gekommen, in diese Landschaft des Jahres afrikanischer Prägung. Ihr werdet Senegambia entdecken, eine Region mit einem besonderen, beiden Ländern gemeinsamen Ökosystem, ein geografisches Gebiet mit wichtigen biologischen Ressourcen. Eure Anwesenheit hier, zu einem Zeitpunkt vielfältiger Spannungen auf der ganzen Welt, wird sicherlich zu gegenseitigem Verständnis und zur Völkerverständigung beitragen, die ein Garant für Frieden auf der Welt ist.
Ihr werdet die Bevölkerungsvielfalt der beiden Länder kennenlernen und euch mit der kulturellen Vielfalt und dem kulturellen Erbe der Region vertraut machen. Und entsprechend den afrikanischen Traditionen und der senegalesischen Gastfreundschaft („Teranga“) werdet ihr mit euren Gastgebern die vielen Tänze unserer Bevölkerung üben: Mbalakh, Yela, Ndawrabine, Sawrouba, etc., wobei euch die typischen Instrumente begleiten werden: Tamtam, Kora, Balafon, Riti, etc.
Bei der Umsetzung des Reiseprogramms werdet ihr auch Gelegenheit haben, zum Schutz unserer Umwelt beizutragen, zum Kampf gegen die Erwärmung unseres Planeten, zum Erhalt der Artenvielfalt, aber vor allem zur Förderung des ökologischen Tourismus.
Im Namen der Naturfreunde Senegal und der Bevölkerung Senegambias heißen wir euch auf afrikanischem Boden willkommen, im Besondern in Senegal und Gambia. Und am Beginn eines neuen Jahres wünschen wir euch, dass es ein gutes und glückliches werden möge. Möge das Jahr 2018 Gesundheit, Glück, Erfolg, Frieden und die Verwirklichung der Projekte der NFI und aller Naturfreunde-Verbände bringen. Amen.

Bäume für die Zukunft
Die von afrikanischen und europäischen Naturfreundinnen und Naturfreunden gemeinsam mit der Bevölkerung durchgeführte Pflanzung von Obstbäumen in drei Dörfern war einer der Höhepunkte im Rahmen der Eröffnung der neuen Landschaft des Jahres.
Bäume sind in der trockenen Sahelzone überlebenswichtig – insbesondere Obstbäume leisten wichtige Dienste: sie spenden Schatten, festigen den Boden, liefern gesunde Nahrung, die Früchte können auch vermarktet werden und jeder Baum ist ein wichtiger Beitrag zum Klimaschutz. Damit die Bäume gedeihen, müssen sie mindestens dreimal am Tag bewässert werden und jeder Baum braucht ein eigenes Schutzgerüst, damit die Blätter nicht von Ziegen und anderen Tieren abgefressen werden. Über 2.000 Bäume wollen die Naturfreunde hier pflanzen – gemeinsam mit der Bevölkerung. Vor jeder Baumpflanzung sind daher ausführliche Gespräche und eine Schulung zur Pflege der Bäume notwendig, damit die Dorfgemeinschaft hinter der Aktion steht und dafür sorgt, dass die Bäume auch überleben.
Die Baumpflanzungen werden aus dem Naturfreunde Klimafonds finanziert. Der Anfang 2017 ins Leben gerufene Fonds bietet allen Naturfreundinnen und Naturfreunden die Möglichkeit, als Ausgleich für die Treibhausgasemissionen im Zuge von Flug- und PKW-Reisen Klimaschutzprojekte der Naturfreunde in Afrika zu unterstützen und so ihren persönlichen Beitrag zu mehr Klimagerechtigkeit zu leisten. Die Beitragszahlungen fließen zu 100 % in konkrete Maßnahmen vor Ort, welche die Folgen des Klimawandels mildern und/oder zum Klimaschutz beitragen. (www.climatefund.nf-int.org)

Après avoir atterri en soirée du 11 janvier à l’aéroport flambant neuf de Dakar (les procédures d’entrée sont encore très lentes), nous nous installons pour une nuit à la Maison des Amis de la Nature de Petit Mbao.
Le lendemain, 12 janvier, nos bagages sont chargés sur deux bus, après une séance d’information sur l’actualité du déroulement du voyage – des informations détaillées avaient déjà été distribuées avant le voyage. Nous partons direction Koungheul. Après une pause midi à Kaolack nous visitons Koungheul Socé, le quartier où en aout 2017 des plantations d’arbres fruitiers avaient eu lieu dans les concessions familiales au nom des Amis de la Nature de Baden (Allemagne). Plusieurs familles sont fières de nous montrer comment leurs arbres se sont bien développés – grâce aux soins suivis et aux dispositifs de protection.

Chers Amis,
Il nous revient le privilège et l’agréable devoir de vous souhaiter la bienvenue. C’est toujours pour nous un honneur et un réel plaisir de recevoir au Sénégal des Amis de la Nature. Mais nous vous accueillons cette fois ci avec un enthousiasme débordant, eu égard à la symbolique qui s’attache à ce voyage ci, à l’honneur que l’Internationale des Amis de la Nature (IAN) a manifesté à l’ASAN, en décidant d’organiser le Paysage de l’année 2018, pour la première fois en Afrique et au Sénégal.
Nous y voyons une marque de confiance à l’endroit de l’ASAN et de son représentant au sein de l’IAN, en l’occurrence notre ami Mamadou MBODJI, mais surtout un double défi de l’organisation et de la mobilisation à relever, pour la réussite de l’événement.
Chers amis, vous êtes venus nombreux des Fédérations d’Amis de la Nature, à travers l’Europe et l’Afrique, pour le Paysage de l’Année version africaine. Vous allez découvrir la Sénégambie, avec un écosystème particulier commun aux deux pays que sont le Sénégal et la Gambie, une aire géographique très riche en ressources biologiques. Votre présence ici, en ces moments de tensions multiples perceptibles à travers le monde, contribuera sûrement à la compréhension mutuelle et au rapprochement des peuples, gage de la paix du monde.
Au contact avec le peuple sénégambien composite, vous serez admiratifs de la richesse et de la diversité de sa culture. Et dans la pure tradition africaine et de la Teranga sénégalaise, vos hôtes vous feront danser le Mbalakh, le Yela, le Ndawrabine, le Sawrouba, etc., au rythme du tamtam, de la kora, du balafon, du riti, etc.
La mise en œuvre du programme de votre séjour vous permettra également de contribuer à la préservation de notre environnement, à la lutte contre le réchauffement de la Planète, à l’amélioration de la biodiversité, mais surtout à la promotion de l’écotourisme.
Au nom des Amis de la Nature du Sénégal et du Peuple sénégambien, nous vous souhaitons la bienvenue en Terre africaine, particulièrement au Sénégal et en Gambie. Et au seuil du nouvel an, nous vous présentons nos meilleurs vœux de bonne et heureuse année. Puisse l’année 2018 être une année de santé, de bonheur, de réussite, de paix et de réalisation des projets de l’IAN et de toutes les Fédérations des Amis de la Nature. Amen.

Des arbres pour l‘avenir
Les reboisements en arbres fruitiers, effectués par des Amies et Amis de la Nature d’Afrique et d’Europe, avec les populations de trois villages, ont compté parmi les moments forts dans le cadre du lancement du nouveau Paysage de l‘Année.
Dans les zones sèches du Sahel les arbres sont nécessaires à la survie – notamment les arbres fruitiers rendent service à plusieurs égards : ils donnent de l’ombre, stabilisent le sol, procurent des aliments sains, les fruits peuvent être commercialisés et chaque arbre est une importante contribution à la protection du climat. Pour que les arbres puissent se développer bien, il faut les arroser au moins trois fois par jour, et chaque arbre doit disposer d‘un dispositif pour protéger les feuilles contre les chèvres et autres animaux. Les Amis de la Nature ont l’intention de planter plus de 2000 arbres dans la zone – toujours en étroite association avec les populations. Avant chaque opération de reboisement il faut donc prévoir des entretiens détaillés et des séances d’information pour l’entretien des arbres, afin que le village adopte le projet et assure la survie des arbres.
Les reboisements sont financés par le Fonds des Amis de la Nature pour le climat. Le Fonds, créé début 2017, offre à toutes les Amies et à tous les Amis de la Nature la possibilité de soutenir des projets climatiques des Amis de la Nature africains, pour compenser les émissions dues à leurs voyages en avion et en voiture ; ceci aussi pour fournir leur contribution personnelle à plus de justice climatique. Les montants ainsi versés bénéficient à 100 % à des actions concrètes sur place, atténuant les conséquences du changement climatique et/ou contribuant à la protection du climat.
